The RS Theremin - Ultimate 2   (This Design is Retired)

"Two Voices"

"A Multiple Voice theremin is possible by using a hand mounted Photo Voltaic Cell "Solar Cell". By mounting the solar cell on your palm, your hand becomes a very selective Ear! Different theremin voices can be output on multiple LED light beams for independent voice selection while playing. Volume is controlled by the opening and closing of your fingers. There is a slight distortion by the softening  of a square waves edge. Sine waves sound better than original."
Note: The hand mounted Solar Cell with the J2 output will drive an amplifiers microphone input (sound card) easily, but lacks the power to directly drive a computers amplified speaker input. Pre-amplification is needed.

Your volume hand plays 12" to 15" away from the output LED's

Build using  my component layout and use the schematic for parts and connection verification.
Use the same circuit board holes I use so troubleshooting is easier!

Solar Cell  (I used a table belt sander to reduce it down to palm size - see Tour photo)
Lowe's Hardware Store - I removed it from a Malibu sun-powered yard light - Model LZ1 D $8.98 USD
This is the most sensitive solar cell I found, even sanded down. The Radio Shack solar cell 276-124 will not work!
I found a solar cell that is thin like the aluminum of a cola can and works excellent above 100 hz.
It can be scissor trimmed to a size of  1"x 3.5" and is very durable.   Email me for more info.
