RS Theremin - Ultimate 2b
100% Radio Shack

This Ultimate 2b  is a "true heterodyne theremin voice"
as Lev Sergeyevich Termen discovered in his laboratory.

1. Use my favorite passive volume control using a simple CdS Photo-Cell found in a
bathroom nightlight. This works better than a hoop antenna, simple and effective.

2. Use a dual-voice volume control using two modulated LED's  beams
projected onto
    a handheld solar cell
Volume Control . Sound samples at bottom of current page.

Real Analog Angelic .mp3 (130k) is simple acoustics, Lev would not use a synth!
.

Start this project by only spending $25 usd. Etch the circuit board and build the few components in the Green boxes of the graphic below. You will be tuning your theremin sound through a AM Radio for quick success. Add the rest of the components later but soon because the copper traces oxidize!

"My theremin project is a gift to you if you are capable of thinking outside
the box, while reaching forward to touch the past."
Christopher

Antenna Connection
Use a 30" wire antenna connected to the upper left side graphic below circled Antenna connection or use
the Lev Antenna which connects to the left side L1-L3 pad which is the L1 coil center tap connection.
The antenna length begins at the solder spot on the circuit board connection!

Use Lev's Antenna for Total Theremin Note Control
C4 & L3 are not seen on the graphic below, they are part of Lev's Antenna schematic.

Warning: If you reverse the battery connection you will damage the TL082 chip! (-;

The printed outline size of the PC Board should be
6" x 2.9" (15 cm x 7.2 cm)
PDF info to make this board is at the bottom of this webpage

The S--- on the left side of the board near L1 is where the foil can be cut to add a switch

Update Notes: C2 & C8 - measure two 100 pf  for identical values or close, used for LC oscillators.

The C5, C11, C13, C14 capacitors .1 uf  RS Catalog # has change to 272-1069

 Optical Volume Control

The fluty sound is the pure sine wave while the square wave timbre mix creates the whinny sound.
With vibrato and using no volume control
With a little practice I might get rid of the flat notes!

This may seem scary but it's really not difficult!
