RS Ultimate 2b

  View a Schematic
by Don Parrish Bell (48k)
The modifications & upgrades made to the Ultimate 2b board:  (Ult-2 to the Ult-2b)

R-Tune was added so using a *100 ohm  pot in series with R4 could fluctuate the transistors junction voltage which changes the junction capacitance slightly. This allows fine tuning the pitch from a remote location. C13 .1uf is not shown on the above schematic but is on the board, it was added to keep the R-Tune cable at AC ground. L2 is still used for the main tuning. You must cut the R-Tune pads apart if a pot is used, do this by scratching with a razor blade between the pads after the project is complete and working properly. Flopping around pots just get in the way.

* Note:  A different pot value may be necessary if more or less response is needed,
I do not use R-Tune.

The battery connection and switch pads were moved to the left side of the board.

Added the "Lev Antenna" connection
L1-A3 to the circuit board and changed the coil to a antenna center tap "CT" connection.

R4 & R5 were changed from 15K to 10K a more available Radio Shack value.

The two LED mounting positions were rotated 90 degrees so they could be folded down parallel to the board.

D1
was moved to the right so another L2 coil mounting screw hole was available
D1 & D2 should also be 1N4001 diodes which are sturdier.

C15 below Pot 1 was added. I am using a 10 uf capacitor which works excellent after testing the circuit. Pot1 needed to reduce the gain at this stage more effectively.
02.21.05

Three pc board terminal pads (R-tune, To Ult-5 & Audio Out) are added for easier wire connections to the board.
RS #276-1388  The antenna and battery connections are also spaced to use these terminals posts.

A direct line out to drive the Ultermen 5 board was added. This way you can keep the Audio-Out at a microphone level if needed. A frequency counter or pitch monitor can hook up from the To Ult-5 output.

Every component has its value next to it on the circuit board silkscreen, I think?

The original extra right side antenna connection was unnecessary and removed from the board.
